A New School Year!

Tomorrow is the first day of school and I am so excited!  Last night, we had students and families come through the building for back-to-school night.  It was so good to see so many smiling faces.  I really enjoyed talking with Kendra, Shawn, and Travis who stopped by my classroom.  I also got to meet Cole, a new student this year.  Everyone seemed very excited to come back to school.

This year, I have made some changes to my classroom.  Our classroom library set up in a new way so students can access books a little easier.  As we get more books throughout the year, I will continue to organize, sort, and move books around into different bins.  Here is a picture of what our classroom library looks like right now.  Any ideas on how we can make it even better?

I also wanted to create a new reading area in our classroom.  This space will be different from when we practice our word work and phonics lessons.  We will use our new reading area for literature discussions and comprehension groups.  Now we have a fun and cozy place to sit back and talk about books.  It kind of reminds me of a living room or bedroom.  See!  Reading isn't just for schools and only at tables or desks.  We can even read in fun places like comfy chairs!  Take a look at our new reading area and tell me what you think!

Our classroom is ready for lots of learning this year!  I can't wait for school to start tomorrow!

First Time Blogger

I have always enjoyed learning and trying new things.  So when I heard that teachers are using blogs in their classrooms to enhance student learning, I knew this was something I wanted to try.  This is my first time ever creating or using a blog.  I love technology and I'm excited to share blogs with my students.  Aside from creating casual converstations about what students did over summer, how the first day of school went, or what plans they have during the winter break, we will also use this blog as a way to talk more about literature.

For all of my followers, hang on tight.  This is going to be a fun ride!
